Urban Fairways

I've bought sandwiches at Urban Fairways but this is the first time I dined at their Capital Tower branch. It describes itself as an inner-city golfing oasis that's consistently ranked in Trip Advisor's 'Top 10' Singapore's attractions and awarded the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence in 2013.

So yes, it's a cafe, a bar, a place where you can play golf (you can book through their website!), and a shop for golf apparel and equipment. It's a unique concept and it's right at the heart of Tanjong Pagar-Raffles business district.

Urban Fairways is at Ground Floor, #01-07 Capital Tower, 168 Robinson Road (S) 068912

Ice Skating at the Rink

On a public holiday, I had brunch with new friends and went ice skating (only my second time) at The Rink at JCube. This is the first and only olympic-sized ice rink in the country.

Traumatized by the falls I had weeks ago on my first ice skating attempt, I was more cautious and ended up holding unto the rails the entire time! Haha. I was determined not to hurt myself before my upcoming marathons (eek!)

My new friends were supportive and encouraging in teaching me to skate on my own; bless their hearts! One of them said something that struck me hard - "I guess it's easier to learn when you are young because you have no fears and you don't think about a lot of things." It is true. During my first ice skating experience, I was more bold, free and excited but because of the falls I had, fear and cautiousness crept in. I was so scared of falling again and hurting myself. The result? I did not hurt myself but I didn't improve my skating skills. Pretty much sums up life in general too ;)

There was no problem when I entered and picked up my skates. However, 2 hours later, returning my skates was crazy due to a very long queue and packed lobby. Might be a good idea to avoid public holidays and weekends if you want to skate in a less packed rink :)

Señor Taco

After watching And the World Goes Round at La Salle, we wanted to have some relaxing time at Timbre but the place was packed so we walked to Chijmes and decided to check Señor Taco out. Because it was late (around 11:30pm), we were left with very limited food choices :( The staff were nice and apologetic for the closing of the kitchen so it was all good.

Best to sit outdoors for some breeze and a view of the beautiful Chijmes.

Once Upon a Milkshake

Who doesn't like milkshakes? After a very exciting afternoon (I just bought myself a property!!!) I felt that I need a cold treat to calm my hyper-excited nerves and the first thing that popped to my and my colleague's mind was to head to Once Upon a Milkshake at Maxwell Chambers. I had the Little Miss Hazelnutella and my colleague ordered the Agent Red Velvet. Mine was not too sweet and I advise getting a mini (lesser calories!)

What I like about this place is that orders are taken and prepared fast and easy. Staff is well-mannered and the place clean and well-kept. Comfort drink that's quick and easy.

And if you're adventurous, try their best seller - the durian shake! And let me know how it is :)

kyo

Imagine two hours of pampering including drinks, candies and massages in a club with great music. And all for free ;) That's what we had last night at kyo at it's No Man's Land event. It was a good time to know other women and make new friends; I met Hazel, Caitlin and Adriana who are students on an exchange program. Right now, I'm excited to meet them again and show them around the city; lots of places to cover!

For future events at kyo, follow them in Facebook and RSVP quickly to get a slot.

Jai Thai at Purvis Street

Pad Thai

Have I mentioned how much I love Thai food? Or how much I love Pad Thai? :)

Revisited Jai Thai at Purvis Street today after several months to catch up with my close friend, RF, over lunch. I used to frequent this restaurant when I was working in the area two years ago. Lots of fond memories and what nots ;)

The place has not changed and so did my order - Pad Thai with prawn :) My second favorite is their green mango salad.

They claim to be the most wallet-friendly Thai restaurant and I agree as they offer a good selection at reasonable prices. Time to avoid if you want to have a table indoors: 12:30pm to 1:30pm.

Vision

Earlier was our last class for the prayer and intercession module of our ENLI (Every Nation Leadership Institute) advanced studies. It was bittersweet because my Tuesdays will never be the same but it's time to put in action what we were taught.

During tonight's prayer, I had a vision of a rose - a rose that was black in color. It was turning and turning and slowly, its color became light pink which gave it somewhat of a glow. This gives me the message that I am as precious and fragile as a rose and no matter how filthy, wicked, battered and broken I was - I can be born again and become young, fresh and beautiful. Our God is a healing god. He can surely make beautiful things out of nothing or even out of dust or dirt.

The next thing I saw was a rock, which reminds and encourages me to be still, strong and planted on the ground as I go about my Christian walk. Surely, there will be challenges, difficulties and hurdles but as I remain dependent on God, I will be okay.

My last vision was of a young boy sitting on a corner wearing a yellow shirt and red shorts. He had black curly hair and was just sitting and patiently waiting. This, I cannot make out of. Maybe I should have shared this in class because I feel that this message is for others: maybe a couple praying for a child, maybe a parent who has a prayer for his/her son. I guess I'll never know.

But that's a mystery I'd like to keep - the mystery of how great God is, His plans and His power in executing those plans.

Taipei: Oh Why You So Pretty

Things I love about Taipei:

1. Big white clouds
2. Clear blue skies
3. Warm and helpful people (despite language barrier)
4. Clean streets
5. Green everywhere, dark green huge trees on the streets & densely green mountains
6. Convenient and accessible trains
7. Coffee, coffee, all kinds of coffee everywhere
8. 7-Eleven, Family Mart and OK Mart that has everything except plastic bags (carry your own shopping bag!) 4th country with most number of 7-Eleven in the world!
9. Amazing feast for the eyes: Maokong gondola, CKS Memorial Hall, Taipei 101, Miramar, Tamsui, Fisherman's Wharf, Lover's Bridge, Beitou Hot Springs, Grand Hotel..
10. My girlfriends, my bestfriends Leony and Ayie (missing you Lux!) who gave more meaning and more value to this trip.

Dome Cafe

After buying wall-climbing gear at Camper's Corner, my friends and I headed to Dome Cafe at Singapore Art Museum for coffee. Good times with good friends.

Mart Boulevard: A Thai Restaurant

I love Thai food and this place has the best Pad Thai I've tasted here in Singapore (yes, I've tried the ones at Golden Mile). I always get the ones with prawn and today tried their green curry chicken plus mango with sticky rice for dessert. The chicken was so soft it almost melts in your mouth.

The stylish interior of the restaurant is a reflection of Thailand's rich and colorful cultural background. The staff is always helpful and cheerful - look for the sweet uncle!

Race the Dead 2013

Got my Race the Dead race pack today from my friends who queued for at least an hour last Saturday (thank God for friends like them!) and I must say I'm impressed with the waterproof bag it came in with.

This 5k run is one of a kind - I (as a runner) will have to outrun zombies who will 'zombify' me by taking my 2 lifelines represented by the red tags. Shall I run, scream or hide?!

Now, whoever says Singapore is boring --- is wrong! :P

Here's a teaser of what we can expect :)

Update to this post, here's the a video showcasing what I missed because of an injured knee :(

Two of my friends who volunteered to be one of the zombies are in this video :)

Song Fa Bak Kut Teh

Bak kut teh FTW! Glad to have finally tried this famous dish (meat bone soup) from the place with a never-ending queue of patrons. I've been hearing about this place - it has the reputation of having the best bak kut teh in the city.

Another TTT ticked off my list ;)

You have to try it at least once. Find more information here.

Drury Lane

I stumbled upon this newly opened restaurant during lunch today and I loved how unassuming it but has lots to offer. It's a good place to hang out, meet friends and/or have a quiet read at their second level. They have all-day breakfast (yay!) as I love breakfast food. The bacon baked eggs I ordered is to die for! The staff were kind, helpful and cheerful which is a big deal for me who loves the entire dining experience and not just the quality of food.

On my return, I thought of getting a light meal so I chose their 1935 toast which is French toast with peanut butter and banana and it was very filling!
